Proteins
Your body needs 20 amino acids in order to be able to function and fuel your properly. You’re in luck in the sense that your body already makes 11 out of the 20 essential amino acids. However, there are still 9 amino acids that you need to get. How? Through the magic of food! Specifically, there are 9 different amino acids found in different forms of protein. There are some proteins, called complete proteins, that have all 9 amino acids in them already like eggs, milk, quinoa, and soy. There are other kinds of proteins, called incomplete proteins, that only have some of the 9 essential amino acids such as tofu, beans, nuts, and most vegetables. For incomplete proteins it is best to combine different kinds of proteins like rice and beans. Protein plays an essential role in the body because it builds, repairs, and maintains body tissues. Protein also forms enzymes and hormones, supports immune health, aids in nutrient transport, and promotes satiety.
